Announcement: We have a New Board Chair !

The Bhutanese Community in Harrisburg (BCH) is proud to announce that its Board of Directors has unanimously elected Tilak Niroula as its new Chairman. Tilak has a proven track record as a top board member and is a tough nonprofit leader. He was a Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Building Community in New Hampshire (BCNH) prior to joining the BCH Board. In a brief remark this afternoon following the unanimous vote, Niroula said he appreciated the steadfast support of the existing board members and applauded their service and leadership.

BCH praised Bhuwan Gautam, the outgoing interim chair, for his leadership in successfully managing the organization throughout the transition period. “Our board’s accomplishment of the objectives makes us happy, as Bhuwan puts a lot of effort and attention into our board, and we appreciate him spending his valuable time managing the board, and his term was extremely successful because of his commitment, loyalty, and sense of teamwork,” Niroula said. The Board appreciated Bhuwan’s inspirational leadership skills and unselfish commitment to the organization.

Bhawan, a distinguished Bhutanese community leader, is a Ph.D. candidate in public health at Penn State College of Medicine. Soon after relocating to Pennsylvania, Bhuwan started wondering about the benefits a true community organization can provide to society. He offered to join the board and was promptly given the position of interim chair, which came with a page of responsibilities. At the time, the BCH was going through a transition and needed a strong board to establish the organization’s goals and vision. Bhuwan introduced non-profit initiatives to the BCH in less than six months. He established an interdisciplinary board of directors after speaking with numerous community leaders. His duties didn’t end there; he also actively sought out resources to improve the organization’s financial standing. During his tenure, he was successful in organizing a very profitable Gala event to capitalize on the indirect revenue to support various programs, like employing an executive director and a few public health pilot research projects.

Meanwhile, Sabina Gurung was elected as a Vice Chair of the board. Sabina is an accountant currently working in the financial sector and also a mortgage officer. She went to high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Penn State with a bachelor’s in accounting.
