The Bhutanese Community of Harrisburg (BCH) and Lehigh University College of Health are looking for TWO people in central Pennsylvania to serve as Research Assistants for Project Bhalakushari, a research study focused on the well being of older Bhutanese with a refugee life experience.
Project: The Bhutanese Community of Harrisburg and Lehigh University are conducting research related to the mental health and well-being of Bhutanese aged 50 years and older. This is a five-year study funded by the National Institute of Aging.
Role: The Research Assistant (RA) will carry out data collection among the Bhutanese community in the greater Harrisburg area. The RA will participate in training about research and research methods, and will be able to accurately represent the research in the community. The RA will work with other team members to recruit and enroll adults in the project, and will conduct assessments (surveys) and qualitative interviews with adults. The RA will assist in conducting community outreach events related to the project.
Expectations: The RA is expected to have an interest in being actively engaged within the Bhutanese community. He or she must be willing and able to work with a range of people in the community and on the collaborative research team. The RA must be fluent in both English and Nepali languages; written skills in both languages are required. Strong skills in organization and communication are necessary, as well as interpersonal skills. The RA must possess basic computer skills (able to do basic Word processing and use email) and must be able to use a tablet to collect data. The RA must have some flexibility in his/her schedule so that we can best accommodate the schedules of our participants; evening and weekend availability is required. The RA must be able to travel within the greater Harrisburg area in order to visit participants at their homes.
Compensation: The RA will be paid at a rate of $20 per hour, and will work up to 15 hours per week in average.
